Arnett Watson Apartments
650 Eddy Street
HomeRise and Tenderloin Neighborhood Development Corporation worked with HKIT Architects to develop Arnett Watson Apartments. The property provides supportive housing for individuals and families who are extremely low income and/or chronically homeless. The project was named in honor of Arnett Watson, an original resident of HomeRise’s Senator Residence and HomeRise Board Member. The Arnett Watson Apartments opened its doors to tenants in February 2009.
THE BUILDING
Arnett Watson Apartments is HomeRise’s first building constructed from the ground up. The building consists of 83 units including 36 studios, 33 one-bedroom, and 14 two-bedroom apartments. Amenities include a community room with a kitchen, 2 outdoor courtyards, support services offices, a laundry room, on-site parking, and a commercial space. There is also a street side garden and rooftop garden. Green building elements include low VOC paints, linoleum, and solar/photovoltaic system.
ARNETT WATSON
Arnett Watson was an original tenant of HomeRise as well as a passionate and articulate advocate for homeless people. She passed away unexpectedly in September 2003. Arnett left behind an impressive body of work as an advocate, mentor, advisor and teacher, having influenced dozens of emerging leaders in the struggle for social and economic justice.
