Ariel’S STORY

Ariel Bowser may be young, but she has the poise and wisdom of someone who has seen many more years. Her positive attitude belies the challenges she has faced since birth when she became a foster child while still a baby. Although she was later brought in by her Grandmother and then Aunt to be raised, she was ultimately forced to leave this unhealthy living situation while still young and found herself without a place to live.

FINDING A HOME

With the help of others, including her C.A.S.A. “Mom”, Ariel found a home at HomeRise in 2014, and today lives at the Fifth Street Apartments. It was a difficult transition at first, but she says it’s become a blessing and a stabilizing force for her, providing peace of mind and the support she needs to invest in her future.

A MUSICAL PAST…AND FUTURE

Ariel “eats, breathes and thinks” music. As a teen she was accepted and graduated from the prestigious Ruth Asawa High School for the Arts in San Francisco where she studied classic voice. She also sang in the Masterworks Chorale up until 2018. After graduation she turned her sites to contemporary music and began to seriously pursue a career in music while simultaneously taking classes at Skyline College.

she took a break from school this past year when she started working with a well-known music producer creating music and videos that she writes as well as performs. Ariel excitement about her future is infectious. She just completed an album of original and classic Christmas songs that she recorded in Los Angeles and will be releasing at the end of this year.

Ariel recently returned to Skyline College full-time to finish her two-year program with hopes to transfer to a four-year university where she can complete a degree in Psychology. When comparing herself to her peers, she marvels at the fact that so many people her age are unprepared to take care of themselves after graduation. She feels like the adversity she has experienced throughout her life has contributed to her strength and self-sufficiency.

Through all this Ariel has continued to work as a receptionist at a San Francisco credit union, but like many others, finds it hard to move on from supportive housing with few affordable options in the Bay Area. Her ultimate goal is to one day be able give back to places like HomeRise and the people that need some help–just like the help she has been given.
