Edward II building

HomeRise worked with Larkin Street Youth Services and the San Francisco Mayor’s Office of Housing and Community Development to transform the Edward II Inn into 25 units of supportive housing. Edward II serves Transitional Aged Youth (TAY) aged 18-24 who are at risk of homelessness, including youth aging out of foster care. HomeRise’s extensive experience in developing and operating permanent supportive housing, coupled with Larkin Street Youth Service’s expertise in providing tenant services to this particular population, created an attractive, well-managed building, responsive to the needs of the Cow Hollow and Marina communities. These two organizations bring an unparalleled depth in the core competencies needed to effectively provide supportive housing to transitional aged youth.

THE BUILDING

The original building was opened in 1914 and served as an inn with a bed and breakfast. The rehabilitation left the historic Edward II Inn largely untouched on the exterior, remodeling the ground floor and completely finishing the basement to accommodate our programmatic needs. HomeRise upgraded the units, adding bathrooms to those that lacked them, and made major accessibility improvements including the addition of an elevator. Edward II contains 25 units for transitional age youth (TAY) in addition to a live-in manager’s unit.
